Ben Watson Deflated Clown

Ben Watson, front man for Perth bands Project Mayhem and Zxspecky, begins with this early recording from 2000. Armed with a guitar and a strong vocal range, this EP is great for some chilled music and catchy songs.

This three-track EP has always been a bit of an anomaly as it stands in stark contrast to Watson's later work in bands like Project Mayhem and zxspecky.

It's minimalist, mostly acoustic guitars and bass, it is smooth, haunting and somehow innocent and wise all at once.

Recorded as a culmination of his work as a solo artist south of Perth in the late 90s, the young Watson had pretty much moved on by the time this came out.

But it's never been forgotten. Blazing Strumpet Records took it on board a few years ago and have kept the flame burning.

After a long hiatus Watson returned to solo work as 'Benny Mayhem' in 2010.
